Steps to Registration
|
|
The steps you need to take will depend on your present qualifications.
|
|
|
1. Contact the Westcoast Onsite Wastewater Training Centre for information on training availability
|
|
|
2. Acquire the training for your desired category(ies) of
registration as set out in the Onsite Wastewater
Registration Policy or document equivalent education
|
|
|
1. Contact ASTTBC for an application package
|
|
|
2. Apply to ASTTBC for registration
|
|
|
3. The Onsite Wastewater Registration Board will review the application, contact references, and either grant registration or reject the application
|
|
|
4. If registration is awarded, a certificate and practitioner’s stamp will be issued by ASTTBC
|
|
|
5. If the application is rejected, the applicant will be contacted and the reason(s) for rejection explained
|
|
|
The ROWP stamp will be used on official plans and documents filed with the Health Authorities. See the Stamp Use
Guidelines in the Documents section of this website.

|
Effective April 1, 2009, and consistent with the terms of the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) and the BC/AB Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) will certify and register Onsite Wastewater
Practitioners who are currently certified/registered/licensed in another jurisdiction in Canada, in accordance with the
provisions of these Agreements.

Registration with ASTTBC is required to practice in British Columbia. General registration requirements for previously certified/registered/licensed applicants from other jurisdictions are:
|
|
Complete the appropriate ASTTBC Transfer Application Form in full (contact ASTTBC for the correct form).
|
|
Have the issuing authority in the Province from which the transfer is being made attest to the good standing of the current certification/registration/license.
|
|
Mail the completed application to ASTTBC (incomplete applications will be returned) with the transfer and stamp fee of $375.20 (incl HST) payable to ASTTBC.
|
|
|
Additional specific policy requirements for individuals wanting to transfer under AIT/TILMA for registration as a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner (ROWP) are:

|
Completion of a Jurisprudence Exam that examines for knowledge of:
|
the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Act and Regulations of British Columbia and the ASTTBC Code of Ethics
|
the BC Sewerage System Regulation and the Standard Practice Manual for Sewerage Systems (SPM).
|
|
Completion of a Letter of Affirmation confirming they have read, understand, and will abide by the ASTTBC Code of Ethics, the BC Sewerage System Regulation and the B.C. Standard Practice Manual.

|
Note: Newly-licensed Onsite Wastewater transferees will also be subject to ASTTBC’s Practice Assessment Program as per all new certified/registered licensees and should visit Section 8: Inter-Provincial Transferees within the Onsite Wastewater Registration Policy for more detailed information on practice audit policy requirements. |
